(If you wish to have a paper manual to keep there is an additional charge of 800 thb).
The PADI Emergency First Response (EFR) and Rescue Diver course is one of most challenging recreational diving courses but also a great deal of fun. You will learn how to take care of other divers in emergency situations as well as looking after yourself. An EFR/Rescue diver certification is great preparation for the step up to Divemaster and Diving Instructor training.
The courses take place over 4 days. Day 1 consists of theory based Emergency First Response (EFR) training followed by a written exam. Rescue diver training starts on day 2 with a classroom session in the morning and practical training in the water in the afternoon. You will study different emergency scenarios, initially problems on the surface with tired, panicking divers. Different rescue options will be examined, some where you remain on the boat and others where you enter the sea. The scenario of an unconscious diver on the surface is also looked at and you will be shown how make an inventory of useful rescue items that are on the boat.
On day 3 we focus on problems that occur under the water, such as divers running out of air, buoyancy issues or over exertion. You will learn how to properly deal with these problems during a “disaster dive” where you will manage any emergency .Students also learn how to bring an unconscious diver to the surface, and safely bring them to the dive boat.
Day 4 is a review of the skills you have been shown during your training, followed by a practical session on the dive boat. You will be in charge of managing emergency situations and the DJL staff will be creating lots of them for you! Expect to have to deal with everything, missing divers, jellyfish stings, unconscious swimmers etc.
The EFR/Rescue diver course does place a lot of demands on it’s students, but it is very enjoyable and you feel a great sense of satisfaction upon completing it.
The cost of the EFR/Rescuue Diver course 13,500 thb, this includes use of scuba equipment, PADI materials and certification.
